i remember an art tutor ask a student when he's showing work. 'Are you being trendy or you have a particular reason to print this?'
that is exactly what you talking about, he tries to find some new elements of printing, but they've forgotten that creative of art is from the heart, without that "art" cannot connected to another heart.
it is also showing how much he accepts himself. if he unconscious mind is a traditionalist but the conscious mind refused to knowing that. Turn into conflict!
any groups must have their own way of judges thing (ideological), art group is just a society activity, nothing wrong about ideological, it;s just a part of social structure. that's why so many "-ism" come up.
what i'm trying to say is; is being or want to be. it is about honesty to ourselves, how much we value and accept ourselves no matter we are being traditionalists or being avant-gardes. explore and communication ourselves well, other things are not necessary to follow.
